New Entrants to Farming: Grassland Management – event summary

A grassland management meeting was held on Monday 6th March 2017 as the last of the Argyll & Lochaber New Entrant events for 2016/17.
The group visited Achaleven Croft, where Trevor Polley, SAC Consulting explained the importance of knowing the soil pH & nutrient status and checking the soil structure of the fields.
Key Take home messages were:
- Know the soil pH & base nutrient levels of your soils
- Check soil structure and assess compaction levels
- Save some ££ by using a fertiliser that meets the requirements of the soil/crop
