Sustainable Sheep Systems – Consumer and the Climate
After three successful years, the Sustainable Sheep Systems series returns for its fourth season to focus on ‘Consumer Driven Sustainability’.
Consumers are becoming more knowledgeable about climate change and are increasingly interested in where their food comes from and the method of production. As key drivers of our supply chain from the bottom up, it is essential that farmers understand their requirements and perceptions of these consumers to fulfil their needs and retain sustainable sheep enterprises.
Join as we engage with industry specialists and farmers over 4 webinars as we cover topics that centre around consumer perception.
Part one of this series will give an overview of the impact of sheep farming on the climate and the changing demands of our consumers.
In 2022, greenhouse gas emissions from sheep in Scotland were 1.19 Mt CO2e, which is a 17% reduction from 1990 levels. Much of these emissions are in the form of methane from digestion and manure management, which has a significant warming potential in our Earth’s atmosphere. As consumers have become more aware of the impact of climate change, the products they consume have changed.
In this webinar, Independent Sheep Consultant, Liz Genever will focus on the impact of sheep farming on the climate and the importance of this for consumers and policymakers. Dunbia’s Michael Clarke will provide insight to the evolving buying habits and demands of our consumers.
