Access for Harvesting – making the most of your woodland

Posted in

Good access to a farm woodland is essential to allow active management of the crop throughout its lifetime.  This video will help you start thinking about how best to plan access for harvesting, and what to consider when planning where to plant new woodlands.

The easier it is to access a woodland, the easier it will be to look after it.  Thinning at the right times will maximise the total value of timber over the crop’s lifetime so planning ahead for infrastructure will make actively managing the woodland much easier.

Grant funding is available for new access infrastructure that will bring small scale, undermanaged or inaccessible existing woodlands back into active management, and new woodlands as part of the Sheep and Trees initiative.
